Formality, Level of

The formality of a wedding varies and is usually defined by the location of the event and the personalities of the couple, though even a very casual couple may choose to celebrate their special day in a special way as a black tie, formal or semi-formal event. In any case the level of formality should be carried throughout the wedding elements from the invitations, to the venue, attire, meal, reception décor, etc. Your guests should be informed via notation on the invitation if the wedding is a “black tie” or “formal” event, so that they may dress appropriately. It is usually assumed that a wedding is semi-formal, unless otherwise indicated.
